William Overall Ph.D. , PhD

Palo Alto, CA

2003 Grube Fellow
William Overall has dedicated his career to developing innovative technologies for clinical cardiovascular diagnoses. After graduating summa cum laude from Duke University, William went on to a PhD degree in Electrical Engineering at Stanford. His graduate research focused on novel acquisition techniques for efficient contrast manipulation in cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging. He holds multiple patents for MRI and cardiovascular technologies, including methods for acquiring high-quality angiograms without the use of contrast agents, and for an implantable device to detect acute cardiac ischemia. William has also co-invented a novel computer input device using ultrasound techniques, and has developed laser and polarimetry technology for an early-stage start-up dedicated to providing hyperpolarized gases for use in high-resolution lung imaging.

After the fellowship, Dr. Overall rejoined Stanford's Electrical Engineering Department to focus on new techniques for ensuring safety for patients with long-wire implants during MRI examinations. Currently, William serves as co-founder and CTO of HeartVista, Inc., a start-up company located in the Bay Area pursuing innovative techniques for cardiovascular MR imaging.
