Richard completed his BS in Mechanical Engineering at Northwestern University in 1998. Since then, he has worked as a product development consultant, product manager, and lead engineer for companies such as Intel, Nike, and Hewlett Packard. In 2003, Richard chose to concentrate on medical applications of engineering, research, and development by working in a non-profit prosthetics research lab - PRS of Seattle. He distinguished this concentration with a postbaccalaureate emphasis on biosensors, the life sciences, and anatomy at the University of Washington. Soon after, Richard joined the Biomechanical Engineering Division at Stanford University where he completed his master's training to prepare for a career in medical device innovation. Richard supported this intent with internships at Boston Scientific in San Jose and NeoTract out of ExploraMed. Throughout his master's training Richard has also immersed himself in coursework and independent ventures embracing entrepreneurship. His success in the latter has been marked by the award of finalist in the 2005 MIT $50K Entrepreneurship Competition, the 2006 Silicon Valley Boomer Venture Summit, the 2006 New Venture Championship, and the 2006 Rice Business Plan Competition.
