Tad Simons

Tad Simons has designed healthcare products for patients for over 22 years, and is currently a leader in IDEO's Health practice. In his health practice leadership role based in Palo Alto, Tad helps guide a worldwide design practice that accounts for roughly a quarter of IDEO's total business(and reviews nearly a new business opportunity every day). Tad involves himself in project management and client relationship development, and supports a culture where a wide range of human and technical disciplines inform great healthcare solutions. With experience in physiological measurements, he has worked as a technical designer and leader o many medical projects, including blood pressure systems, oxygen saturation, infusions systems, cardiology products, in vitro diagnostic measurements and airway gas monitoring for anesthesia. This work has resulted in 17 US patents. Prior to joining IDEO, Tad also applied his design, clinical and business experience to strategic planning for healthcare and life sciences at HP Laboratories, gathering a borad look at the health industry, world demographics and the forces that are reshaping the industry today. Tad has BS and PhD degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University and an MS degree from the California Institute of Technology.
