Sigrid joined NEA in 1994 as an associate and became a partner in 1997. She focuses on biopharmaceuticals and medical device companies. Current board memberships include Acorn Cardiovascular, Myogen (NASDAQ: MYOG), Neuropace, Spiration and Xcel Pharmaceuticals. She also works closely with Alexza and Alsius. Previous board memberships include Appriva Medical (acquired by Microvena), Cellgate, Novacept (acquired by Cytyc) and Sonic Innovations. Prior to joining NEA, Sigrid worked as a management consultant at McKinsey and Company and as a research associate with the National Science Foundation of Belgium. She received a "Licenciaat" in Chemistry/Biotechnology (summa cum laude) and a PhD (summa cum laude) in Molecular Biology from The University of Ghent, Belgium. She holds an MBA from Stanford University.
