Santiago Ocejo is a medical student at Monterrey Institute of Technology (ITESM) Medical School, currently at his last year of medical training. Along his career Santiago has been involved in clinical and basic research, pursuing a minor on Research and Innovation. His work in clinical medicine includes working in private hospitals and social security and public health institutions in Mexico, being an active member of the health system team in these institutions. As part of the minor, he participated at the Institute of Bioscience and Technology at Texas A&M University, at the Center for Extracellular Matrix during the summer of 2004. Along with academic activities, Santiago was an elected member of the School of Medicine Student Government Association, coordinating two International Congresses of Medicine (2005 and 2006), on Neurology and Oncology. He received the National Award for Community Service in 2003 for his work leading two communitarian projects in marginalized communities. He is an active member of the School's Ethics and Professionalism Committee. Since high-school Santiago has been involved in youth leadership programs toward Mexico's development and progress. He worked as a volunteer in Mexican Red Cross for two years before entering to college. Santiago has a particular interest in Public Health and Health Administration, particularly in Women's Health area, projecting to an obstetrics and gynecology residence program in the future as the first step. He is captivated by the importance of problem-solving and decision-making, and its impact on local and global health. He was a Fellow at the Global Health by Design Fellowship, in the Biodesign Program at Stanford University.
