Shubhayu Basu , PhD
Cleveland Clinic FoundationCleveland, OH 2005 Stertzer Fellow
Shubhayu Basu received his bachelors and masters degree in Biochemical Engineering and Biotechnology from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi in 2000. During his undergraduate studies Shubhayu served as a summer intern at Dolphin Laboratories (Calcutta, India) where he worked on the design of a production line enabling continuous production of Stryptochrome. During his Master's project he designed two 200L reactors for the scale up of a bioconversion process. He joined the Ohio State University to pursue a PhD in Chemical Engineering and is currently expected to graduate in August 2004. His primary area of interest has been in tissue engineering with a thrust towards investigating the effect of uniformity of tissue scaffold structure on cell growth, proliferation and apoptosis, with an overall goal of developing an implantable device for the treatment of Parkinson's patients. He also developed a high throughput fluorescence based method to study the cytotoxic effect of cell cycle phase specific drugs. Shubhayu has complimented his research pursuit by his teaching interest and amongst other teaching awards, was awarded the departmental Outstanding Teaching Award three times in a row.
In 2009, Basu joined the global Cardiovascular Innovation Center which is currently housed within the Cleveland Clinic, but is a statewide effort to create medical device related companies and expertise in the cardiovascular arena in the state of Ohio.
