Nishith Chasmawala , BS

Fellow
Stanford-India Biodesign
Stanford Biodesign Program
Delhi, INDIA

Over the last seven years, Nish has designed, developed and commercialized several innovative medical technologies. Some of the evolutionary and revolutionary products that Nish has been involved with includes: the first FDA-cleared drug coated stents (Johnson & Johnson Cypher), inflatable bone tamps for kyphoplasty (15/2 Express IBT & 22/3 KyphX IBT), bioresorable stents for BPH, neurovascular coils, guiding catheters (Vista Brite Tip), spinal implants, expandable valvulotomes (LeMaitre) and carotid shunts. He currently has multiple patents issued or pending for his work at Kyphon and in Biodesign.

In addition to cross-functional experiences from LeMaitre Vascular, Cordis and Kyphon, Nish also has entrepreneurial experience from Vcube (co-founder) which originated from the Howard J. Leonhardt New Venture Challenge.

Long term, Nish intends to get closer to patient care by engineering a change in our nation?s healthcare practices. Nish believes that to provide a truly lasting solution towards healthcare reform, a genuine synergy is required between the delivery mechanisms of healthcare and innovation of medical technologies. Nish believes that in emerging healthcare markets, this synergy is even more critical because of the enormous gulf between primary care and tertiary care.

Nish is a native of India and did his schooling at St. Mary?s Boarding School in Mount Abu, Rajasthan. He graduated with a BS in Plastics Engineering from the University of Massachusetts at Lowell, where he was also a varsity athlete (crew).

When not working, Nish relaxes by playing endurance sports, traveling or cooking.
