FoxHollow TechnologiesMenlo Park, CA John Simpson is internationally recognized as a pioneer, innovator, and authority on interventional cardiology. His invention of the over the wire balloon angioplasty catheter led to the founding of Advanced Cardiovascular Systems (ACS) in 1978. In 1984, Dr. Simpson invented to concept of directional atherectomy (the removal of atheroma from the coronary artery) and founded Devices for Vascular Intervention (DVI). ACS and DVI are now divisions of Guidant, Inc. Dr. Simpson is a founding partner of DeNovo Ventures, a venture capital partnership that was founded to help entrepreneurs build world class companies in the life sciences industry. He is the founder of Perclose (an Abbott Laboratories company). In addition, he serves as Chairman of both Fox Hollow Technologies and Lumend, Inc. He also serves as Professor of Clinical Medicine at Stanford University and a Staff Cardiologist at Sequioa Hospital (Redwood City, California). Dr. Simpson completed his undergraduate education at Ohio State University and received his Masters and Doctorate degrees in Biomedical Science at the University of Texas. He is a graduate of the Duke University Medical Schooland completed his fellowship in interventional cardiology at Stanford University. He is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology and a member of the American College of Physicians.
