John Onopchenko is a co-founder of Synergy Life Science Partners where he is also a managing director. Life Science is a venture capital firm that focuses on investing in private medical device startup companies. His portfolio companies include: Epicor, Novacept, Digirad (NASDAQ: DRAD), Genyx, Nuvasive (NASDAQ: NUVA), Vascular Control Systems, Vivant Medical and Volcano Corporation (NASDAQ: VOLC). Prior to Life Science, Mr. Onopchenko was a Vice President in Johnson & Johnson Development Corporation, Johnson & Johnson's venture capital subsidiary. He invested primarily in early stage medical device companies or companies which will contribute to new or existing professional businesses for J&J. Mr. Onopchenko was also on the management committee of JJDC. Over the last 19 years, Mr. Onopchenko has progressively increased his responsibilities through the successful development and commercialization of six new-to-the-world technologies: surgical stapling, endoscopic surgery (United States Surgical Corporation), medical lasers (CooperVision), magnetic resonance imaging/spectroscopy, catheter-based therapies guided by digital fluoroscopy, (General Electric Medical Systems), and H2O2 gas plasma sterilization (Advanced Sterilization Products, a Johnson & Johnson company). While at Johnson & Johnson Mr. Onopchenko managed investments in 21 Johnson & Johnson Development Corporation portfolio companies located in the Western United States. Mr. Onopchenko received his Masters in Business from the University of Chicago, Graduate School of Business and completed the Advanced Management Program at Oxford. He is also a member of the Licensing Executive Society and a registered representative with the National Association of Securities Dealers. Mr. Onopchenko currently sits on the board of directors of BaroSense, Oraya Therapeutics, TransEnterix, and Volcano Corp.
