Joel Goldsmith

Joel graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a degree in Neuroscience, and later earned an MBA from UCLA. While an undergraduate student, he participated in the Family Planning and Reproductive Health internship program at Emory University School of Medicine, where he conducted clinical research. The results of his study were subsequently published in the Journal of the American Medical Association. After college, Joel accepted a position at Emory Healthcare as a member of the Health Communication Project, an R&D initiative focused on medical applications of emerging information technologies.

At Emory Healthcare, Joel developed and implemented the institution's first Internet strategy. He then joined the Internet Business Strategy Practice Group at USWeb/CKS, one of the first and most prominent consulting firms to emerge during the early commercialization of the Internet. At USWeb/CKS, Joel focused on business development and led several client engagements.

While a graduate student, Joel was one of five MBA students selected to participate in IBM's Extreme Blue internship program, where he led a team focused on wireless location-based services. He also lived in South Africa for four months while studying at the University of Cape Town. After business school, Joel joined the Strategy Group at Baxter BioScience, the biotech business unit of Baxter Healthcare, where he led projects focused on product development and strategic planning.

In 2003, Joel joined Medtronic's diabetes business, where he developed, patented, and commercialized an advanced therapy management system designed to simplify and enhance insulin pump therapy and sensor-based glucose monitoring.
