Jessica A. Hudak , MS

Manager
San Jose, CA

Jessica Hudak is currently working as Intellectual Property Manager at Baxano, Inc where she works closely with the R&D, Operations, Marketing, and Clinical teams to identify new inventions and their strategic value to the company. Jessica specializes in work with medical device startup companies in the crucial, cost restrictive period of the pre-funding or early stages of financing rounds. She aims to develop for them a significant and tangible IP portfolio that can be used to increase valuations and lock in the long-term success of the company and its technologies. Jessica understands that each company will have unique intellectual property needs based on their technology, competitive landscape, position along the financing timeline, and exit strategy. She will therefore initiate US and foreign filings, amendments, freedom to operate and patentability searches and opinions accordingly, in order to maximize portfolio strength in a highly cost effective manner.

Prior to joining Baxano full time, Jessica worked as a patent agent for ShayGlenn LLP where her practice focused on medical device technology in multiple clinical areas for early stage startup companies. Jessica was also Schox Patent Group's Senior Patent Agent from 2004 to 2008, also specializing in medical devices.

In September of 2006, Jessica graduated from the Stanford Biodesign Innovation Fellowship Program. During her time as a fellow, Jessica reached a deep understanding of multiple clinical areas including obstructive sleep apnea, obesity, laparoscopic surgery, heart failure, and emphysema. Jessica currently serves on the board for The Biodesign Alumni and is a featured author on biodesignalumni.com.

Jessica received her M.S. in Biomechanical Engineering from Stanford University and her B.S. (Magna Cum Laude) in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan. Jessica interned for the IDEO Health Practice in 2006, Ethicon Endo-Surgery in 2004, and for Stryker Instruments in 2003.
