Received MD degree in 1978 from Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and completed a 3 year residency in Family Medicine at Bryn Mawr Hospital in 1981. Practiced family medicine in the Philadelphia area until 1986 when I joined McNeil Pharmaceutical of Johnson and Johnson as Assistant Director of Clinical Research. Promoted in 1988 to Associate Director of Clinical Research. In 1990 assumed Associate Director position in clinical research at Glaxo Pharmaceutical. In the period form 1986 to 1991 I was responsible for various clinical trials, including an antidepressant, a non-sedating antihistamine, a recombinant Hepatitis B vaccine, an oral hypoglycemic and an antiemetic. In 1991 I joined Ethicon, Inc of Johnson and Johnson as Director of Medical Affairs. While at Ethicon, Inc, I had responsibility for the clinical testing of a variety of surgical devices used in laprascopic surgery as well as other surgical devices such as sutures, meshes, bone anchors, and several drugs used to inhibit abdominal adhesions. I was also responsible for the clinical evaluation of a topical growth factor in the treatment of chronic wounds, which led to a PLA filing and eventual product approval by the FDA. In 1998 I assumed the position of Group Director of Clinical Research at Cordis and was promoted to Vice President of Clinical Research in 1999 with responsibility for worldwide clinical development of coronary and endovascular devices. In January, 2002, I assumed responsibility for therapeutics research, a function that evaluates emerging intravascular technologies.
