Charles Nelson , MS

Mr. Nelson has worked in the medical device and pharmaceutical industry for over 20 years. Charles is currently the Director of Engineering for Therasense, Inc. an East Bay company focused upon diabetes care and technology. His career has spanned several medical disciplines including, diagnostics (therapeutic drugs, infectious diseases, chronic diseases), orthopedics (total joints, small joints, and arthroscopy), laparoscopic surgery, interventional cardiology, thoracic surgery, and biological adhesives. Charles is a either inventor or co-inventor on 11 issued patents in biosensors, orthopedic surgery, and laparoscopic surgery. He has presented novel materials research and product directions at scientific seminars. Charles has worked in several locations domestically and lived and led programs overseas. During his career, he has hired and developed talented technical people and with them developed concepts, prototypes, and launched successful products for, Stryker Corporation, Bristol Myers Squibb, Abbott Laboratories and Therasense, Inc. Charles is a graduate of Purdue University in Chemical Engineering and holds a Master of Science Degree in Electronic Materials from Northwestern University.
