Chinmay V. Deodhar

Chinmay is a 2011 Stanford-India Biodesign Fellow. He graduated from the Indian Institute of Technology - Madras in May 2010 with a B-Tech in Engineering Design and an M-Tech specialization in Automotive Engineering.

He has interned at PARI Robotics, an industrial automation firm based in Pune, where he worked on product development for medical engineering. Under a DAAD scholarship, he also did a 2-month "Praktikum" in robotics research at the Bremer Institut fur Produktion und Logistik GmbH in Bremen, Germany.

In his 3rd year of engineering, he built and sold a cellphone app called QuickWord, which helps students enhance their English vocabulary. This entrepreneurial success led him to later co-found Lypas.com, a mobile social network, at IIM Ahmedabad.

His latest product is an innovative dual-function 5 mm laparoscopy instrument that can be used as a grasper as well as a scissor. He has a patent (pending) for this invention and is currently partnering with some manufacturers to bring this tool into the market.
