Cliff Alferness

Cliff Alferness received his BSEE from South Dakota School of Mines & Technology in 1969. He designed implantable cardiac pacemakers for Medtronic Inc. from 1969 to 1975. He was part of Physio-Control Corp from 1975 to 1989 developing and researching external defibrillator and other emergency therapeutic devices. He studied at Duke University conducting basic cardiac electrophysiologic research in the defibrillation area. He co-founded InControl Inc in 1990 to develop an implantable atrial defibrillator. He also found Acorn Cardiovascular Inc. in 1996 to develop an implantable polyester fabric device to treat dilated cardiomyopathy. He co-founded Spiration Inc. in 1999 to develop implantable devices to treat emphysema and Scout Medical Technologies in 2000 to incubate 3 therapeutic medical device companies: Cardiac Dimensions Inc. in 2000 to develop an implantable transvenous treatment for mitral valve regurgitation, Archus Orthopedic Inc. in 2002 to develop an implantable artificial facet joint to treat lower back pain, and EsophyX Inc. in 2003 to develop tools for endoscopic treatment of gastroesophogeal reflux disease (GERD). Mr. Alferness also found Seattle Medical Technologies in 2004 to develop a new device company. He was named inventor on 65+ US patents and author on 25+ scientific publications. Mr. Alferness is currently CEO of Seattle Medical Technologies Inc, CEO of Scout Medical Technologies Inc, Director of Spiration Inc, and Director of Cardiac Dimensions Inc.
