Sue Siegel believes the transformation of medicine from an art to a science is here, and that advances in information technology have brought medicine into the digital age. The convergence of these disciplines is driving personalized, consumer-driven and information-based healthcare.
Sue joined Mohr Davidow in 2007 drawn by the firm?s commitment to investing around technology convergence and personalized medicine. She arrived after a distinguished career as a corporate leader and with a background in biochemistry and molecular biology. ?I was attracted by the clear investing thesis around personalized medicine,? she says. ?Combine this focus with the opportunity to work with entrepreneurs to build companies that help improve human health and grow jobs in our innovation economy?how lucky can one be??
?To build a business takes the combination of a great idea, deep passion, tremendous discipline, and hard work. It's a privilege to partner with entrepreneurs, to help them translate their ideas into companies. They want to create meaningful products and grow their business to profitability, and, ultimately, achieve successful exits. It's inspiring to see them overcome hurdles, meet milestones and fullfill their dreams.?
Sue is passionate about sharing the company building lessons she?s learned. She gained her 25 years of experience at Bio Rad Laboratories, Kodak, DuPont and Amersham International, now part of General Electric, and Affymetrix.
In 1998, Sue joined Affymetrix, a startup on steroids and a pioneering life science company, to lead the commercialization efforts for the company?s state-of-the-art GeneChip? technology. A year later, she took the helm as president and shortly after was appointed a board member. She led the company through a tremendous growth phase. During her presidency, the company scaled to almost $400 million in yearly revenue and was valued as a multi-billion market cap growth company.
?Today, cutting-edge technologies including sequencing and protein platforms are driving an explosion of molecular level information that boggles the imagination,? she explains. ?From all the technological advances in data generation, startups are creating powerful, new molecular diagnostics, devices, and therapeutics to make personalized medicine the standard of care.?
