Michael is currently a combined fellow in Biodesign (2nd Year) and the Dept. of Ophthalmology at Stanford. He received a B.E. degree, magna cum laude, in biomedical engineering from Vanderbilt University, Nashville, TN and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in biomedical engineering from Case Western Reserve University. His expertise includes project management, technical R&D, clinical and preclinical evaluation of medical products. Michael has worked in the fields of ophthalmology, chronic pain and movement disorders. He has published more than 20 peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters and proceedings and is a reviewer for five scientific journals.

Michael also has expertise in electronics design, and has experience with implantable device design in both academic and corporate settings. He has more than 10 pending patents.

Michael also has experience in small business development, and has won several awards for his entrepreneurial activities.

Michael enjoys traveling, meeting interesting people and rock climbing.
