MedTech Summit, 2007
Prior to arriving in the U.S. to start their fellowship, the newly
selected fellows (Srinivas Jaggu, Jayant Karve, Sandeep Singh,
Amit Sharma, and Nish Chasmawala) attended a first-ever Medical
Device Technology Summit in Delhi, December 20-21, 2007. Attendees
at the summit included faculty from Stanford University, IIT-Delhi,
and AIIMS. Also attending were participants from industry, government
and regulatory agencies as well as the Indo-US Science & Technology

Stanford Biodesign Innovation Course, 1st Quarter, 2008
All SIB Fellows participate in the Biodesign Innovation course.
This entails being a member of a team of graduate students (from
Engineering, Medicine, Law and/or Business) that researches a medical
need and determines appropriate solutions taking into account markets,
stakeholders, regulatory pathway, reimbursement strategy, etc. At
the end of the first quarter (it's a two-quarter sequence) each
team presents to a panel of industry experts (including Drs., VCs,
local company Sr. Analysts, etc.) Here is one such presentation
by the team SIB Fellow Nish Chasmawala was on. |

Biodesign Innovation Fellow Present
Findings from India
Marie Guion-Johnson, Biodesign Innovation
Fellow, spoke with the fellows and Stanford-India Biodesign faculty
and staff about her experience in her externship with Aurolab (part
of Aravind Eye Institute) in Madurai, India. She reviewed her process
of observation in the eye care setting and in the lab where they
make surgical instruments. Dr. Guion-Johnson's work during the month
she was there will benefit the long-term processes for creating
instruments for eye surgeries. |
