MDDI posted an article on Biosense, a company started by Darshan Nayak, a 2009 SIB Fellow, and Myshkin Ingawale. The article, entitled Wanted: FDA App Enforcement, talks about the app that Biosense has written that will test urine samples.

The Times of India, in discussing lowcost healthcare technologies, highlighted the Stanford-India Biodesign program. The article entitled Med in India features the low cost splint designed by the 2nd batch of SIB fellows.

SIB Alumni Pushkar Ingale (2010) and Siddhartha Joshi (2012) have joined forces with Laerdel to open a User Centered Lab in Pune. Sonakshi Pandey, a 2011 SIB intern, will also join the design team.

January 26, 2013 M.K. Bhan was awarded the Padma Bhushan, a high civilian honor given in India. Dr. Bhan, former Secretary of the Department of Biotechnology in the Government of India, was the principal architect, along with Dr. Paul Yock, Dr. Rajiv Doshi, and Dr. Balram Bhargava of the Stanford-India Biodesign program.

January 18, 2013 Anurag Mairal, Faculty of Stanford-India Biodesign, spoke at the IEEE EMBS Special Topic Conference on Point-of-Care Healthcare Technologies.

January 2013 SIB 5 (Siraj S Bagwan, Jagdish Chaturvedi, Siddhartha Joshi and Jonathan D. Pillai) received first prize in the IIT Kharagpur Empresario B Plan competition for their liver biopsy device.

December 2012 The 6th Annual Medtech Summit was held in Delhi, India on December 21, 2012.

November 2012 Neobreathe, a company based on technology coming out of the SIB program, has obtained an exclusive worldwide license from the Dept. of Biotechnology, Govt. of India to develop and commercialize their neonatal resuscitation technology.

November 2012 We are pleased to announce that a second license has been obtained for a device from SIB. HLL of India has licensed the Limb Immobilization device invented in 2009 by Darshan Nayak, Pulin Raje, Rahul Ribeiro and Asokan Thondiyath. HLL Lifecare Limited is a Government of India enterprise under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare. The license agreement was executed on November 7, 2012 in Delhi, India.

October 2012 Mridusmita Choudhury, SIB 2011, was part of Medtronic's first skill based volunteerism pilot in September and spent three weeks at Dr Mohan's Diabetes Specialty Center and Madras Diabetes Research Foundation helping with a Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) and process improvement project. As part of the final presentation, she showcased the Biodesign principle, and how it could be instituted in improving their current and future patient management processes. In addition, she conducted a Biodesign workshop for the top process people in the group including IT, patient management and lab managers.

October 2012 Stanford-India Biodesign is used as a case study in frugal innovation in a paper out of the UK by Nesta: India Frugal Innovation Report. They also highlighted the Jaipur Knee, developed at Stanford by Mechanical Engineering students, in the study.

September 2012 Balram Bhargava, Executive Director SIB in India, was part of an event in London discussing Frugal Future: Lessons from India's Innovation System. The conference director indicated: "We have had great feedback on the event, and several people have already told me they were inspired by your work." Dr. Bhargava also participated in FICCI Heal 2012.

September 2012 We are pleased to announce the formation of the first company from the Stanford-India Biodesign Program. Consure Medical Ltd. has received Series A funding from the India Innovation Fund, Indian Angel Network and India Venture Partners. Consure, which was founded in 2011 by Nishith Chasmawala and Amit Sharma - , first year fellows of the SIB Program, has developed a low-cost product for fecal incontinence, which affects more than 16 million patients in India and over 100 million patients worldwide. August 2012 Anurag Mairal and Raj Doshi visited GE in Bangalore and gave a talk to a group of 150 engineers there about Biodesign, the process and the SIB Fellowship.

July 2012 Chinmay Doedhar, SIB fellow from 2011, is featured in a story entitled Pune Lad's 'Surgical Precision' in India's Daily News & Analysis (DNA.)

May 2012 SIB Project from the 3rd year Fellows received a Center for Innovation in Global Health seed grant. The project, “Newborn hearing screening in the developing world – toward implementation of a novel device and innovative model of service delivery”, has been awarded $50,000.

On February 9, 2011 Anurag Mairal will be presenting to the NIH at the Fogarty International Center for Advanced Study in the Health Sciences. He'll be speaking under the 'Framework Programs for Global Health Signature Innovations Initiative' about C-IDEA and Biodesign's role in developing low cost technologies for global needs.

December, 2010, Balram Bhargava, Executive Director, SIB India, has been appointed as one of 4 Executive Board members from the Indian side for the IndoUS endowment by The US Embassy and the Minister for Science and Technology. This board was created to foster technology, research and development related entrepreneurial activities intended to lead to commercialization of R & D for the mutual benefit of both countries.

December 10, 11, 2010 we held our 4th Annual Indian Medtech Summit held in Delhi, India. This year's event was the biggest ever - over 200 people attended including representatives from Industry, Academia, Government, NGO and the Venture Community. We were honored to have Padma Vibhushan Dr. K Kasturirangan as a keynote speaker.
