Case 7 - A Problem of Understanding
A young inventor shows you his solution for treatment of neurodegenerative diseases and discusses it with you to see if you will help sponsor the idea. It is clear to you that he is onto something but he is taking an approach you feel is too complex. You spend two hours with him but he wont accept your suggestions of better ways to modify his solution by simplification. You are pretty sure his solution will never make it to benefit these extremely needy patients. Also, you know you probably can use your network to jump-start this potential project exploration.
- Can/should you implement your modification of his approach
with your greater resources?
- What are your obligations if you have signed a non-disclosure
agreement?
- What are your obligations if you have not signed a non-disclosure
agreement?
- At what point, if any, might you plan to tell the inventor
about your thoughts and/or activities?
- What issues might there be for you regarding protection of
intellectual property?
- What consequences might there be for you resulting from this activity?
